Rachele Ciccocioppo

About
Prof. Rachele Ciccocioppo received her Bachelor of Science in Medicine and Surgery in 1987 and specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 1991, and in Internal Medicine in 2014. In 1993, she worked at the Neuroscience Centre at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia, dealing with inhibitory neurotransmission in the intestinal peristalsis. In 2001, she worked at the Laboratory of Prof. Detlef Schuppan of the University of Erlangen, Nuremberg Germany, and focused on the role of matrix metalloproteinases in celiac disease. From 1996 to 2017, she worked with her Mentor, Professor Gino Roberto Corazza, dealing with mucosal immunology and for the last 10 years, has dealt with cell therapy, in particular with mesenchimal stem cells, founding and co-chairing the Scientific Committee on Digestive Diseases within the International Society of Cell & Gene Therapy.
Prof. Ciccocioppo’s research interests are focussed on the potential role of mesenchymal stem cells as new therapeutic strategy in coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel diseases, and autoimmune enteropathy. She has published 101 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been involved in clinical trials as investigator in the field of intestinal diseases. In addition, she takes an active part in both national and international meetings with invited speeches and oral communications.
